Hey guys I just received a 2018 shadow black crew cab. Upon bring it home and looking it over in the day light it appears there is some sort of imperfection in the rear driver side door. It looks almost as if someone tried paintless dent removal. Its locate half way down the door under the door handle and above the body flare. It favors the back edge of the door. There is no damage to the paint. Not sure if it's a flaw in how the door is stamped or what. If any of you 2017 2018 owners could take a look at your doors and let me know if yours has it or not I'd greatly appreciate it. It's not on the passanger rear door that I can tell. Thank you in advance.

Yeah I sure can. I'll try in the day light. However i will retract my previous paintless dent removal statement. Upon further inspection it appears the door was damaged before it was even painted. If you run your finger down the door gap between the door and the back of the cab you can feel a flat spot as if something hit the door. It also has a slight vertical crease that almost looks like it sticks out instead of in much like a typical dent. It's for sure not a stamping imperfection. It didn't happen after the paint was applied either. The finish is completely flawless with no signs of someone trying to correct it. The truck only has 21 miles on it. This sucks pretty bad. I've had it a day tops and it hasn't left the driveway. I have no idea how fords going to make this right

    Hey ,
Listen I've got two of those in my '18 Leadfoot Crew. What they are is where in post paint production Ford Factory paint guy's took out little dirt nib's using a piece of 2000 grit wet sand paper with there finger and removed the nib ,This in turn gives the Illusion of dents in the clear coat ,plus these only appear at certain light angles..... Man Ford is really F#%ked up
Had they use a little block of wood or a hardened sponge theses would not appear the way they do.

Here's how you get rid of them:
Have a really good dent removal guy use his glue pulling pieces to create high spots , then his little rubber tipped awl to knock down around the spot then wet sand with block ... These will disappear , on the doors they will get lost with the wavyness of the orange peel on the clearcoat ...
The more you look at the paint the more you will see things ....It's a real Bummer !!!!!

I went over my paint with a fine tooth comb and only came across two of those and got rid of the immediately ...

The first reaction when you see those is : WTF ! Where did i get this dent from ? lmao

    Good Luck dude !

Hey thanks for getting back to me RAPTOR2. The more I look at this truck the sicker I get. If you have some time could you please look in your passenger side drip molding? The area directly above your passage front door between the sunroof and the top the of door. Mine has the ripple of the stamp then a monster size dent. Now that it's day light here I've gone out and looked closer the at the dent in the door it also carries over to the bed side at the same elevation. I've tried to get a good pic but it won't show. 20171112_112432.jpg

    Wholy Shit !

I told you not to look over your truck !
Your gonna get sicker ! :(
I'm clean on my drip molding both sides
The ripples are going to appear everywhere because of the stamps , especially the doors around the handles and under the drivers windows the orange peel doesn't help, plus black is unforgiving..........

Here's the best shot I can get of the door and bed. If you look at the reflection you can see my arm. Right about the elevation ofwhere my elbow is is where you would want to look. If you follow the door seem down you can see the low spot in the end of the door. You can feel this low if you run your finger down the seem. Directly across from it is the spot in the bed. 20171112_111110.jpg

Thanks for checking I really appreciate it. I'm getting rid of the truck tomorrow evening. It's unacceptable for 70k. The dealer is going to take it back. No more fords for me.

    I see it !
That spot is post production ! No doubt it has been wet sanded with an index finger !

Sorry to see you go .. Most dealers would just try to get it rite from ford ... Now that they buy it back ,it can't be sold as a bran new truck ..........

Yeah. It sucks I've wanted one since 14 and missed the order dead line back then. Then I waited 15 weeks for this one just to have it all beat up looking. The roof is terrible and is for sure a production issue. It looks like a big clamp impression. O well wasn't meant to be. Thanks for all your help and taking the time out of your day to check things for me brother. Best of luck to you with yours.

Holla at cha all Raptor 2 and FstTbss especially. Guess what guys my drip rail looks the same as fstTbss. Same shit. Whats up FORD? Someone on the production team was having a bad week obviously. This should have been spotted and corrected prior to paint.Instead they just painted over it. Its seam sealer tape. To Ford: Quality is job one. Change the filters on the production line spray booths! Call 3M they will come out to the factory and free of charge teach the team how to use a seam roller instead of a tech using his middle finger. At Lunch that day they were laughing.,I feel sorry for the sucker who paid 70k for my shitty work.

Dude it makes me sick. I took the truck back to the dealer and canceled the transaction. Their words to me were they get no backing from ford corporate to fix the truck. After looking at the damage on the truck they told me they would be upside down in the truck if they paid out of pocket to fix it. Friday I looked at a avalanche grey 17 at work. It has no body issues. I saw a black 2018 platinum or fx4 4dr about 2 weeks ago and it had the same crease in the rear driver door as mine. Something is going wrong in the production of 2018s. I don't have any reason to believe the dealer was even going to tell the rep so ford could fix it. The trucks on the lot and still hasn't sold.

I feel so bad for you. I have 30 years in the bodyshop industry. Its aluminum! I believe we are all seeing the issue of a thin lighter metal. Never seen this on a steel body. My 2014 mustang gt was perfect. My 2016 F150 was aweful. Hmmmmm the only real change is this 5oolbs weight reduction. This might be a big part of this issue. Look at the bed and fenders. Composite isn't doing that. Nor the steel parts. Aluminum is lighter but its the first ever aluminum off road truck. We are obviously the testers for future changes. I bet they thicken the panels just like the Gen 2 Frame. That dealer should find you a perfect truck and deliver it with a big red bow!

I'd still like to have one. I'm just super gun shy right now. I'm going to see what 19 brings. If I'm not mistaken they open orders in March of 18 for the 19. It's such a shit deal. My old man's best friend owns the dealer so I get raptors at msrp. He gets 3 a yr. So I can't get one now. I haven't been able to find one how mine was built. If it's on the lot they want 10k over and they don't have carbon fiber or orange accent. If they do have it they aren't shadow black. I'm so heart broken over it. I've been waiting since 14. I've never owned a Ford before either. I really thought this was going to be a better experience. I could have pushed the issue but it probably wouldn't help.

It took my dent guy 3 man hours of labor , Glue pulling ,wet sanding and the other tools of the trade to make the imperfections unnoticeable . I'm relieved I did not have the rail issue with the seam. But , i've gotten these things on my gen-1 Raptors all post production... The worst thing you can do is look over our trucks with a fine tooth comb...
It will sicken you ... alot of these dirt nib dents can disappear with the wavyness of the orange peel of the doors.

But why should we have to exert quality control in our God Damn drive ways....[IMG]
We will never get a perfect truck from Ford I have accepted that ......

Ford this is for you [IMG]
    And this too ! [IMG]
    Well this too also [IMG]

Yeah it's such a disappointment. The dealer figured about 10k to fix mine. The back door was so bad with the crease that pdr wouldn't get it. It was in the hardest part of the door. Just ahead of where the skin is wrapped over and pinched. The roof would need the interior pulled to get it straight and then refinished. The bed side was fixable with pdr but they would need to blend the door to the bed so it was easier to work the aluminum in the bed at that point. Just a mess. I'm gonna try again when the orders open for 19. Not sure if they will have any changes with options or not??? Probably won't get black either. Magnetic or lead foot might be more forgiving if there is a slite issue. I would accept a little pdr and block sanding of minor issues but definitely not full on body work. Pulling a perfect interior out to fix stuff makes me nuts too. Things start to lose their fit. At that point it's a used car in my mind.

I am fully routing for you to get a new one! Lets create a Ford Raptor fund me for FstTbss. Fund him a Raptor of his choice Ford Motor Division. I vote yes. Apply the 10,000 above msrp x 8. Now give him a truck!

That would be amazing!!! It's the only vehicle on the market right now that I would consider owning. It has everything at truck should have. All the guys on this forum driving one know exactly what I'm talking about. I got to drive mine for a total of 13 miles and I was 100% sure it was the truck for me. I wish there was a way to let ford know they have q/c problem. I like the fact that they try to do some what of a repair to the paint if there something in it like RAPTOR2 stated before. It shows some what of an effort on behalf of the factory. How about use a block instead of a finger to make the correction for a less noticeable correction. Or better yet like RAPDAV18 said change the filter. I know damn near perfect raptors exist. I've seen them. Those trucks are the reason I bought mine. I've also laid eyes on some perfect platinums and king ranches that are flawless. They use the same cab and doors. It's a people problem. The UAW's that were building my truck just didn't care. Some people take pride in their work and others don't. I had a truck that proves they don't. Such a shame.
