The time has finally come for my husband to get his Raptor and of course he has a very specific set of "must haves". 2013/14, under 15,000 miles, black with the blue interior accents, tailgate step, beadlock wheels, etc. etc. He held off on a truck so I could get my '69 Camaro restored so he gets whatever he wants.

We found a 2013 with 6,600 miles for just under $55,000 that has everything including 3 of the 4 options on the want but not mandatory list.

The only downside is it is in North Dakota, about 1,300 miles away and going there to see it isn't a possibility for 2 weeks. I doubt they would hold it that long. So we are seriously considering buying it sight unseen and having it shipped to us. The pictures on the internet are pretty good and it looks very clean. Dealer said they would take whatever additional pictures we wanted.

Anything Raptor specific we should be looking for? General thoughts on the deal and state of our mental health are welcome as well.

Pay for a certified inspection from a Ford dealer. As Raptor 2 always says Carfax that bitch. The Price sounds right let us know how you make out good luck.

Got pictures of the undercarriage. It does not look like it has been offroad, skid plates don't have a single scratch on them. One owner, it was a special order and is being sold by the same Ford dealer that sold it new. Still has the plastic wrap on the drivers side carpet from when it was new. That being said you can tell it has been in a place with snow. It hasn't been washed underneath and there is salt and a bit of surface rust everywhere.

Pass on that. Get something cleaner that you can actually drive and PPI. Those must-have options aren't as important as rust issues and unseen problems.

I bought a car sight unseen once and it worked out great. That is not the case everytime as there are shysters everywhere. You have to do your homework, but at least you still have some warranty remaining in case you miss something. It is a risk/reward situation, so you have to be comfortable before pulling the trigger.

Surface rust on parts on the undercarriage is 100% normal. front knuckles, rear pumpkin, leaf springs, u joints - all normal surface rust spots. Now if the entire frame and everything you see has rust I don't know what to say. When i picked up my 2010 off the showroom floor (with 12 miles on it) the normal areas already began to show some surface rust. Just saying

I agree with Coach I have a 13 that is garage kept and well cared for and it has the same rust that Coach speaks of. I have seen 2014 Special Edition with under 15,000 miles going for that price range (just saying) It seems that lately they are bringing more $$ and fewer around. I guess it boils down to how bad you want one. Unless you can hold out for the new Raptor in 2017 ?
Good luck let us know how you make out.

I did the same thing - purchased 2010 with a significant amount of rust but with 50k miles. Luckily the frame had no structural damage and Zeibart was able to clean the truck up. Look at my last post and you can see the progression of the vehicle. Just replaced suspension components and it rides great...Very happy with the truck but could have done without the rust headache.

More rust than I expected - should I be worried/return vehicle?
