Do keep us up to date on that fix! It will be exciting to put it to rest!My Ford dealer called me today to let me know they will have a permanent fix with in the next 2-4 weeks. They also told me they will no longer attempt to fix the problem w/grease! I guess I have to live with the clunk until its gone forever. I'm just thankful that my clunk is minor!
On the 2010, I took it to the dealer so I have to assume they used their OEM stuff. Perhaps the config was a bit different from the '10 to the SCREW in '11? Got 2 tubes of the Aeroshell and it was like $25.I'm Glade to see someone reads my post ! As an engineer i work hard to come up with the right solution for the job , How much did you pay for the grease? Good Luck with the clunk. It's to bad Ford can't open ther eyes and help out . I wounder what kind people Ford Hires for there engineering staff .
Can anyone else verify they have something coming? It sounds like a dealer trying to get you off their back/out the door.I know we are all excited for a permanent fix!
Well folks, 1700 miles since having them grease the slip yolk with the Aeroshell product. She's smoother than she ever was. I'd wager Ford's fix will be similar, replacing the OEM grease with one that actually works. On the 2010, I took it to the dealer so I have to assume they used their OEM stuff. Todd, did you take the grease in to the dealership and they used it to lube the shaft? Of did you do it yourself? I was wondering if they would do that as opposed to using their grease. My buddy has the clunk and would love to have it go away for 1700 miles or more...Well folks, 1700 miles since having them grease the slip yolk with the Aeroshell product. Clunk just started happening at about 700 miles. Production is 2/11. My son's best friend is a Ford mechanic at the dealer I bought it from. Guess i will get it greased. No suspension rattle yet. Thanks for all the posts on the clunk problem and the solution.By the way, my build date is January 11 (2011 Screw)... so the clunk exists on Raptors after the 1/7/11 date... In Fords TSB they stated "some raptors with a build date prior to 1/7/11... FYI.
The notorious “clunk” will be addressed today per Ford’s TSB (greasing the slip joint). The mechanic says this is a temporary fix and most likely the “clunk” will return (as we all have read). However, he mentioned that with more mileage the clunk should lesson and or go away. This is based on his experience. Mine started at around 600 miles, worsened up to 1,000 miles and has improved (lessoned) on acceleration but worsened on stopping at 1,200 miles. The Mechanic says Ford should be issuing a permanent fix for this issue soon…. Now, does anyone have the suspension “rattle” when driving over small bumps (asphalt patches, etc)? I have read that people have located to the front right of the truck, mine seems to be at all four wheel locations. Sounds like something with the suspension is lose.
I bought the grease and took it to the dealer. I had coordinated with the service manager prior to purchasing and frankly, they have bent over backwards to take care of this. He gladly had his guys use my grease and take care of it. They won't (can't) actually "purchase" grease other than OEM for you but if you press them (I showed them a bunch of posts on this forum) they should accommodate you by at least performing the application.Todd, did you take the grease in to the dealership and they used it to lube the shaft? I have had the clunking up front of my 2012 raptor and it’s driving me crazy…. Everything is tight and literally everything up front is brand new except tie rod bushing mounts. When I hit a bump or pothole it sounds like the shocks are loose or something in the suspension is loose. I put the air gun on everything. It’s driving me crazy … you mentioned the shock bushings . Will they swell up and get better ? The fox shocks are brand new because the old ones were definitely bad. They wouldn’t rebound . Any suggestions to fix the problem ??I have spent tons of time on this one , it apears that the front shocks are to narrow at the bushing mount thus sliding back and forth this will go away once shimed and compressed with the bolt It may be the same with the rear as well.
