So I had a feeling I wasn’t firing right and decided to change all the plugs. When pulling the coils off the top side I was met with all kinds of silver dust and when I got the plugs out they were definitely the originals with over a 100k mikes on them. Armed with all the knowledge I found in these threads and personal experiences with my old 5.4 I decided to buy a coil rebuild kit from Denso. The kit supplied boots , springs, and pellets. The video that is on the forums shows the pellets just falling out. Well that would be in a best case scenario. The picture posted shows how bad the pellets corroded. Spent a fair amount of time picking back the corrosion and blowing the coil stem out to free the pellets. But the results are well worth it. Truck fires nicely and I gained almost 3mpg. Anyway I’m happy and impressed Ford now makes a serviceable coil and went back to straight thread plugs.
