Just a thought --might clean out your heat exchangers... My Tranny temp is constant when the thermostat opens which is the way the transmission was is supposed to work. Cooler is not better in this transmission meaning 180 or less--aint gonna happen.

You are losing a lot of efficiency with the crud I can see from the pictures.
You would be surprised how much this cooler actually helps. I personally have towed our 8,000 pound race with a 2,500-3,000 pound trailer and the tranny never got over 205 degrees. Also, we can go out and run the truck hard in the desert and it is same scenario. I have seen other trucks without the cooler try similar tasks and the transmission is usually at 230-240 range. These were on trucks with the digital gauge read-out, not the dial style gauge.

I agree, The desert dunes is really hot now and judging by the dial gauge I was hitting the red mark easy and had to stop to cool the transmission down. But now I am getting more fun time as the temp stay down and the cooling time is lower too.
Unfortunately I can't get any exact temp reading because I don't know where to tap it from.
I have not noticed any change in the power or gear. I think it’s still worth having the cooler installed than not.

What about adding a second trans cooler? It looks like they way they have the mounts, that another identical cooler could be mounted right by the factory cooler. Would that be of any value?
We have been mulling over the idea of an economy version of the transmission cooler kit. Something to increase the fluid capacity but without the fans. We will be posting updates as we move forward with this idea!

You can always buy and Earls cooler, they have at least 40-50 different sizes that you could splice into the existing system, it would give you extra capacity and cooling, fans are always optional.

Has anyone tried bypassing the factory OTA cooler after installing one of these large aftermarket coolers and instead using the factory cooler as a power steering fluid cooler? Given the size delta I doubt the factory one is contributing much extra and it looks to be a decent size for a PSF cooler.

You mean as a second Power Steering cooler? There is one on the truck already. It's in your A/C condenser...
I wouldn't bypass any factory coolers just add to them all...

Yes, as a second cooler. Additional PSF cooling would seem to be more needed than additional transmission cooling. We've had a ton of members here overheat their PSF and need at minimum new pumps. I don't recall anyone here overheating a trans bad enough to need replacement (although a few have failed for other reasons). That said, I'd say that the SDHQ trans cooler along with the OTW cooler in the radiator would produce more than enough cooling capacity that "repurposing" the original OTA trans cooler as a PSF cooler would handle any fluid cooling shortcomings that we might have.

Another ATF cooler option I've been looking into is the one that comes on the 6.0L PSD SuperDuties with the TorqShift5 trans. That one is large and very efficient, but would likely need to have some custom brackets made to fit it into an F-150.

I had to have mine replaced because of this issue. RPG has a new reservoir for the power steering which they claim helps with this problem, have you seen that write up yet? What do you think of that item?

I do agree with you on more P.S. cooling is needed big time but on the same hand I also seen very high trans temps on the last Raptor run..High enough to warrant slowing down for a cooling..
I am in the process of putting a new system together right now for my P.S. this will include a new pump that I will modify myself for more flow and slightly more PSI and a additional cooler along with a real reservoir and filter.
Cooler.. 1150

And the 1010 reservoir.

That is a good idea in theory. BUT... Just adding a little more fluid and changing where it dumps....ummm well lets just say I'M not going that route..
See above post..lol:smileup:

After this is done then I will be doing trans coolers...

Holy sh-t Wiz, I like the idea of a filter on the ps reservoir , keep us posted on that and the tranny cooler.

Are you talking about this site? http://www.jegs.com/p/Earls/Earls-T...ure-Wide-Oil-Coolers/1676010/10002/-1?S=t&No=72&Ntt=1676010&Ntk=Parent&Ntx=mode matchall&N=0&Ns=P_Margin|0||P_Auxdesc1|0||P_SKU|0&Nty=0

I couldn't find any info with fan assist coolers though :4-dontknow:

Thats because CBR has the coolers with the fans...:D

No, I meant this:

Just make sure to mount in front of the radiator or an open air source. I've used these on my track cars, they work great.

They do look a lot more sturdy built Wiz, any idea of price on the CBR's?
Here are the standard CBR coolers http://sdhqoffroad.com/PWROilCoolers.aspx

CBR makes us a specific cooler to work with our Raptor kit.. Our behind the bumper kit and our lower skid mount... http://sdhqoffroad.com/raptortransmission.aspx

Cheaper Alternative Transmission Cooler

This is what i did instead of installing an expensive aftermarket cooler. Ordered a stock cooler from ford for about $85 and with a little bit of custom hose work done in my garage i was able to gang the 2 together (OE and the extra) to create a "double" cooler. Been running great, i see average of 20 degrees cooler no matter how hard i get in it.

That is exactly what I did, but was still hitting 230+ in the dunes last week, so going to need something more aggressive. Either that or I need to be a little less aggressive.
