I was trying to install my Wicked shock protector today and stripped one of the Allen screws and the threads in the shock itself (one dam big mess :3-smash:). Does anyone know the thread size of the screw so that I can retap the threads in the shock and get a new screw?

Thanks Peter

Ok the bolt is a 1/4-28 fine thread....The confusion can come because of the fact that the 4mm and 5/32 allen wrench both fit the head..

Shock bolts are 90Nm (66 lb-ft)

Depending on how bad the hole is when you go to re-tap it may be necessary to one up the size so you can get back into good metal.
If you have to go to a bigger hole I would change over to Metric. A 7mm -1.00 will only increase your hole size by .030 where going up to a 5/16 will take the hole to a .062 over size...Thats alot in a little space..
Don't forget to open the clearance hole up in your shock guard...That hole was probable a little off location in the first place and thats what started your mess..lol
Hope this helps...Let us no how it turns out..

I personally use a Grade 8 Hex Head Bolt - they get really abused by rocks and that way you can use Vice-Grip Pliers to get it off if the hex part gets so deformed a wrench or socket doesn't fit... and just a dab of Blue Loctite and I don't tighten them very much, maybe 15 foot lbs.

Ask WIZ - I beat the crap out of my Raptor...

Thanks again Wiz for the size. But I must now say I feel like an ass. I have never had or worked on something with leaf-springs. To get the strut out I had to loosen the leaf U clamps to get some more clearance, got it out, tapped the threads etc. When I went to put it back together you would think OK lets put the strut back in first then tighten those leaf U bolts and everything else (the opposite of taking it out) Well I tried that and the dam strut kept pushing the rear away from the alignment holes of the leaf, so I take the strut back out and then tighten the leaf U bolts first and now the dam strut doesn't have enough clearance to get the bolt back in the bottom. OMGGGGGG So I loosen the leaf up just a tiny bit and it got in.

But at this point in time I'm kinda scared I didn't do this right at all. The leaf bolts are aligned in the bump stop holes, the bump stop plates pins are aligned in the axles holes, strut is in and those U clamps on the leaf are tight but I'm scared that they sorta moved or something. On the other side that I didn't touch I measured from the bottom of the nut (where the red Teflon part is) to the end of the thread and got about 1 1/4 inch and on the side I did I only can get about an 1 inch. F my life.

Any suggestions?

I could really use a picture here....Are you talking about U-bolt threads hanging out?
I'm not sure what you are taking your dimensions on.??
If all the pins are in place and it all sits flat there should be no issue..

Everything seems to be sitting flush. I was reading somewhere though when everything is tightened down the suspension needs to be in a netural position. Idk if I did that

All is well..The only time you need to worry about pre loading the suspension before tightening is if you take the springs loose at the pivots.
The Ubolts should be tightened to 98 ft lb's in a criss cross pattern..

Thanks Again Wiz I was really worried about it being messed up. Like I said I never messed with leafs before. Only worked on cars.
