I really don't think anyone was slamming the 5.4. If I could have found one when they came out towards the end of 09 I'd have one. I think what some of the 6.2 owners are saying is, 100hp is 100hp. that's all.

In addition to my 6.2 Raptor, I have a 5.4 3v expedition, it has PLENTY of power - but if I had the option, it would have the 6.2 as well. No need for you guys to be so touchy, we aren't slamming you.

As a very happy 5.4 owner, I agree... and extra 100HP would be an extra 100HP. Probably worth a few more smiles!

Curiosity now

Ok so we have the general consensus that those that have the 5.4 are pretty much happy with their choice and the 6.2 owners are also.
Now I'm going back to my original idea of a 5.4 for mileage purposes. I know that if I were to do a mild tune with intake, exhaust and programmer I should be able to increase usable power to the rear wheels which translates into some mileage gain. Hence a hopeful 18 MPG. :4-dontknow:
so my curiosity has been raised here. Addressing the 6.2 owners. Has anyone been able to enhance the trucks gas mileage with intake, exhaust and programming? I understand the concept of 100hp is 100hp. However that 100hp usually comes at a price in fuel consumption and longevity dependability with that urge to press down hard on the gas peddle each time you start to move.
Like I said, my main motivation in the 5.4 is for mileage and being able to deliver usable horsepower to the rear wheels is what gets that accomplished in my opinion. That and mild gas peddle usage.
Ok so now I"ve presented a whole new question so lets hear back from you guys.

6.2 mpg

My 2010 6.2 has a 5 Star tune (performance), Airraid & Magnaflow muffler and I get 15.5 mpg avg out of every tank. I doubt the mpg gets much better than that regardless of 5.4 vs. 6.2.

FYI - This set up on the 6.2 sounds great and is much more responsive than stock.

That's pretty good for a big block motor. I could live with that if is consistent.
I had a Ford Sport Trak with the v6 and that's all it got most of the time also.

Another note is that I live in the mountains and I have to consider that I will loose mileage also with the ups and downs.

My Nissan frontier barely got 15 each tank, while the 6.2,...well I am feeling good to get 12 in the city

I love my 5.4L raptor. i haven't even hit 30K but everytime i step into that truck it's a joy. I work in the automotive industry. when I heard there was over 30 flaws with the block castings for the 6.2L 2 years ago... I was very happy i made my choice with the smaller motor.

I avg ~13.5, but I live and work near DC - LOTS of traffic. When I'm out in rural areas I've seen as high as 18 when I hold it at a steady 60mph.

I completely agree, the 5.4 is a trusted engine that ford has used for years, and has plenty of power, the 6.2 is a brand new motor, without alot of feedback and yes it produces more power, but it is also high compression, and high compression motors are known not to last as long as regular engines, im not knocking the 6.2 im just saying that there is nothing wrong with the 5.4, and it has been around much longer without any problems
